On the weekend, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) was proud to join members of the Older People’s Advisory Group (OPAG), which represents the 50+ Forums of Rhondda Cynon Taf, in celebrating International Day of Older Persons 2026.
The event was an opportunity to recognise the invaluable contribution older people make to our communities every day. Whether through volunteering, caring for family and friends, supporting local organisations, sharing their knowledge and experience, or helping people stay connected, older people play a vital role in creating stronger, healthier and more vibrant communities across Cwm Taf Morgannwg.
Bringing together residents, community groups and organisations from across the region, the celebration showcased a wide range of health, wellbeing and community support services available to older people.
Teams from across CTMUHB were on hand to share information about falls prevention, support for Veterans and the Armed Forces community, wellbeing services through the CTM Wellness Improvement Service (WISE), and the work of the new CTM NHS Charity.
Visitors also learned about exciting developments taking place across the Health Board, including plans for the new Llantrisant Health Park, improvements to dental services, and programmes aimed at making it easier for people to access healthcare and stay connected with the services they need.
We were also delighted to welcome Angela Trichler, Chair of OPAG, to the CTMUHB stand and hear her reflections on the importance of supporting and celebrating older people within our communities.
Natasha Weeks, Head of Engagement and Involvement at CTMUHB, said:
"Older people make an enormous contribution to communities across Cwm Taf Morgannwg every day. Whether supporting family members, volunteering in our hospitals and local communities, sharing their experience, or helping others stay connected, they play a vital role in community life.
It was a pleasure to support this fantastic event, celebrate these contributions and hear directly from older people about what matters most to them when accessing healthcare services. Their experiences, insights and ideas are invaluable in helping us improve health, wellbeing and care for our communities."
CTMUHB would like to thank OPAG, event organisers, partner organisations and everyone who attended for helping to make the day such a positive celebration of older people and their ongoing contribution to communities across Cwm Taf Morgannwg.
