What does the School Nursing Service do?

The school nursing service plays a pivotal role in promoting and supporting the health and wellbeing of school-aged children from the age of 5-16 years including sixth form and special schools, to help them to reach their full potential during their school aged years and beyond.

We do this by delivering one service to children and young people in schools. We can also provide additional advice and support or signposting to other services to those children, young people and their families where needed.

Who are your School Nursing team?

School nurses are registered nurses with an additional qualification in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing, who are supported by a team of qualified immunisation nurses, health care support workers and administration staff. They take over the care of children from their Health Visitor, once they have turned 5 years old.

Where do we provide our service?

Our School Nursing teams are based in venues such as GP surgeries or hospitals across the health board, but travel around their communities supporting children and young people, wherever the need is. Our service is available 8:30 – 4:30 Monday to Friday all year round, excluding bank holidays.

If you would like advice or support from our team, you are able to ask through your child’s school or get in touch with our team on the contact details below.
