The redevelopment of Prince Charles Hospital represents one of the largest investments in healthcare infrastructure in the region.
2017
Phase 1 - The hospital received initial funding of £42 million from the Welsh Government to begin the first phase of refurbishment.
2020
A further £220 million investment was announced to deliver the second phase of the redevelopment programme.
2020–2026
Phase 2 - Major redevelopment works including new clinical facilities, upgraded infrastructure and the construction of new theatres.
2026
Phase 3 - Approval for an additional £42 million was granted by the Welsh Government, with construction beginning in March 2026. This phase overlaps with the final stages of Phase 2 and is expected to complete the major redevelopment programme by spring 2028.
The project has been carefully phased to minimise disruption while ensuring the hospital remains fully operational during construction.
