The redevelopment of Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil represents one of the largest investments in healthcare infrastructure in Wales. A major capital programme delivering significant improvements to healthcare facilities for patients, staff and communities across the region.
Led by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, and supported by major investment from the Welsh Government, the multi-phase refurbishment programme is modernising key clinical areas, enhancing infrastructure and creating a hospital environment fit for the future.
Amazingly this large-scale redevelopment is taking place while the hospital remains functional – renovating a whole hospital inside and out, without stopping services!
A wide range of services including theatres, critical care, radiology, outpatient facilities and specialist departments are being upgraded. These improvements will support the delivery of modern healthcare, improve patient experience and provide a better working environment for staff.
Work began in 2017 and is expected to continue through to 2028, with the hospital remaining fully operational throughout the construction programme.
Prince Charles Hospital provides vital services to communities across Cwm Taf Morgannwg and beyond, including residents of neighbouring regions. The redevelopment programme will ensure the hospital continues to provide high-quality care in modern, efficient facilities for generations to come.
