You can contact our department on 01685 351300. We will ask you some questions over the phone in order to give you the best possible advice and support.
Depending on your child’s needs, we offer appointments on the telephone, by video, or face-to-face.
Our aim is to provide a high-quality, specialist service for children with speech, language and communication difficulties.
We assess and treat individuals with a range of communication difficulties. Speech and language therapists and assistants may work directly with children, or they may support parents, carers and other professionals to help your child.
If you are concerned about your child’s speech and language development, it may be helpful to discuss this with your health visitor or child’s teacher.
Children develop communication skills from birth. Speech, language and communication skills develop at different rates. Some develop quickly.
We may work with children who have difficulty using speech sounds, language delay, a developmental language disorder, hearing impairment, cleft palate, stammering, autism/social interaction difficulties, or hoarse voice.
We may also work with babies who have feeding and swallowing difficulties.
Yes, we have an open referral system for communication problems.
Opening Times
Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm
At your initial appointment the therapist will discuss your concerns and, depending on why your child has been referred, will want to find out about different areas of your child’s speech and language development. The therapist will be able to find out lots of this information by playing with your child, or they may carry out an assessment for older children.
At the end of the appointment the therapist will decide if your child would benefit from help to develop their skills, and will discuss the best way forward for your child with you.
