Ending of Covid-19 vaccine and booster dose universal offers

The Welsh Government has announced changes to the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme.

The latest statement can be found here.

Due to the high level of strong population immunity developed over the past two and a half years, and as we move from a pandemic emergency response towards a more sustainable, business as usual approach, two major changes will come into effect:

  • The offer of the initial two dose universal primary course of vaccine, that was offered from December 2020 to all the population aged over 5, will cease on 30th June 2023;
  • The offer of the universal booster (third) dose, offered from autumn 2021 to all the population aged over 5, will cease on 31st March 2023.

Can I still get my autumn booster?

Yes! Boosters are still available, if you’ve had your primary course (doses 1 and 2) until March 31st.

What do I do if I haven't had a Covid-19 vaccine yet?

If you are aged between 5 and 49 years old, there is still time for you to get your primary doses. You can walk into any of our six CVCs (listed in the link below) or call our vaccine hotline on 01685 726464 to start your vaccine course.

How long do I have to get vaccinated?

If you have not started or completed a primary course of Covid-19 vaccinations (first, second or both doses), you will have until the 30th June 2023 to get fully vaccinated. From this date you will not be eligible to come forward for a primary dose of the Covid-19 vaccine under these new changes.

People who develop a new health condition that places them in a clinical risk group, who had not yet had their primary course and/or booster dose, will still be able to be vaccinated on the advice of a clinician.

Primary and secondary doses

Here’s some information to support you:

  • If your 18 or over, you will need to have 56 days (8 weeks) between your primary and secondary doses.
  • If you are under 18, this is 84 days (12 weeks).

Does this mean the end of Covid-19 vaccinations?

The changes announced do not mean an end to our CTM Covid-19 vaccination programme. we expect Covid-19 vaccination to continue to be an important part of our health board’s vaccination programme.

Where can I get my Covid-19 vaccination/s?

We have six CVCs across CTM open between 9am and 5pm – you can find them here.

At any of these six sites, you can get your first, second, or booster dose.

Visit our CTM website and social media pages for the latest news and information regarding our Covid-19 and wider immunisation programmes.
