Update on Shift Pattern alignment proposals

Today (30 July 2026), the Health Board considered an update on the proposed alignment of shift patterns for nursing, midwifery and healthcare support workers.

Following discussion, the Board has endorsed the recommendation to proceed to the next phase of consultation, which will involve direct engagement with affected staff regarding the proposed shift pattern options. The Board has agreed that consultation should continue on both Option 2 and Option 8, noting that Option 8 remains the Health Board's preferred option at this stage.

The Board acknowledged the feedback received through the collective consultation process with Trade Unions, which concluded earlier this year, and recognised the importance of ensuring staff have the opportunity to discuss and understand the individual impact of the proposals before any final decisions are considered.

No final decision has been made on the implementation of any shift pattern changes. A further Board decision would be required following completion of the individual consultation phase and consideration of feedback received.

Over the coming days, affected staff will receive detailed information about the next stage of consultation, including briefing sessions, supporting information, frequently asked questions, and opportunities to discuss the proposals and any individual circumstances.

This information will be made available via the new 'Shift Pattern Consultation Hub'.

Thank you to everyone who has engaged with the process so far. We remain committed to ensuring consultation is meaningful, transparent and accessible, and we encourage all affected staff to take part in the next phase of engagement.

Important: No changes will be implemented as a result of today's Board discussion. Individual consultation will take place before any further decisions are made.
