Latest Update - 30 September 2026
Following discussions with our Trade Union colleagues, the current shift pattern consultation period has been extended to give colleagues more time to review the proposals and share their views.

We recognise that the proposed shift pattern changes continue to generate questions and discussion amongst nursing, midwifery and healthcare support worker colleagues.
Many staff have told us they are concerned about the potential impact on work-life balance, caring responsibilities, fatigue, wellbeing and the practical realities of taking breaks during busy shifts. We want to reassure colleagues that these concerns are being actively considered as part of the consultation process and continue to inform the work underway. Read more here.
20 August 2026
Members of the People Directorate have begun visiting clinical areas across CTM to speak with nursing, midwifery and HCSW colleagues about the ongoing Shift Pattern Consultation. These informal visits are intended to help raise awareness of the consultation, encourage participation and feedback, and signpost staff to the information and support available through this Shift Pattern Consultation Hub.
Managers play a vital role in ensuring this consultation process is fair, meaningful and inclusive. Please actively support staff engagement by ensuring your team are aware of the consultation, have access to the relevant information, and are given opportunities to ask questions and share their views. Following discussion, the Board has endorsed the recommendation to proceed to the next phase of consultation, which will involve direct engagement with affected staff regarding the proposed shift pattern options. The Board has agreed that consultation should continue on both Option 2 and Option 8, noting that Option 8 remains the Health Board's preferred option at this stage. Read more here.
