The Supportive Recovery Unit at Ysbyty George Thomas is delighted to open their new ward shop ‘Sweets R Us’.

‘Sweets R Us’ is a not-for-profit shop providing snacks, drinks and daily essentials to all patients on the unit. The shop will be run by the patients three days a week and will support them to develop and improve on life skills such as- independence, communication, understanding of finances and budget planning, as well as numeracy and literacy skills – it also provides patients with a sense of responsibility and feeling of self-worth.

Deputy Ward Manager, Martyn John said: “We are hoping for this to be a positive and successful step for inpatient rehabilitation service, which we hope will maximise our patients’ potential during their recovery journey.”

A patient on the unit who has recently started a role within the shop said: “It’s been a very positive experience for me and it makes my time on the ward more meaningful and interesting."
