Photography competition puts wellbeing in the frame

Entries in a photography competition showcasing many of the natural beauty spots across our Health Board are now ready to be judged – and we need your help!

Our Research and Development department, based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, ran the competition during lockdown as a way of encouraging staff and members of the public to get involved in something positive by submitting images of the natural landscape in their local area, boosting wellbeing. With more than 100 images submitted, we have now narrowed the entries down to three from each locality – and we’re putting them out to your vote.

The competition was run in collaboration with Uprise Print, a digital printing company based in Llantrisant. Our photography enthusiasts were invited to submit images of natural beauty across the localities of Merthyr and Cynon, Rhondda and Taff Ely and Bridgend, with a shortlist from each area (three images per locality) now posted on our social media. The shortlisted entries are:

Merthyr and Cynon:

Rhondda and Taff Ely:

Bridgend:

The competition was held to commemorate a new Clinical Research Centre, which is due to open at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in the coming weeks and which will enhance the current research facilities at our Health Board. Each winner will have their image enlarged and showcased permanently in the reception area of the Clinical Research Centre, as well as receiving from Uprise Print a Foamex graphic print of their winning image to keep.

A poll for each locality can be found on our Twitter page, with voting closing on Thursday, February 18.
