New Endoscopy space opens at Royal Glamorgan Hospital

The first patients to receive diagnostic endoscopies at brand new temporary facilities located at Royal Glamorgan Hospital were welcomed into the units last week.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has installed state-of-the-art Vanguard units on the hospital site, which will increase endoscopy and surgical capacity across the health board area.

To minimise disruption to services caused by roof replacement work at Princess of Wales Hospital, CTM has worked with Vanguard to replace capacity whilst the work is ongoing. The units allow the Health Board to treat patients more quickly whilst also tackling waiting times.

The Vanguard mobile theatre units offer a flexible environment which supports a wide range of procedures, including the majority of day surgery activity, which frees up other theatres for other activity including major joint or bowel surgery.

Gethin Hughes, CTM’s Chief Operating Officer said: “We are incredibly grateful to Vanguard for their swift response in supporting us by bringing these mobile theatre units online to address our reduced theatre capacity as quickly as possible.”
