Kick-starters complete work placements at CTM

Today (September 29) we see our Kick-starters finish their placements here at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

In partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions, the scheme has run in CTM since December 2021, and has seen twenty-five young people be placed across the Health Board on six month work placements. The placements have been across all aspects of our services, including housekeeping, catering, IT, patient safety, emergency departments, workforce and more.

Throughout their time with us the Kick-starters have had the opportunity to complete two qualifications in partnership with Coleg y Cymoedd. Cwm Taf Morgannwg also hosted a graduation event to celebrate the Kick-starters’ achievements, with their family and friends in attendance.

We are delighted that eleven of our Kick-starters have gained employment with CTM and are now part of our workforce.

Adrienne Davies started on the Kick-start scheme in Cardiology and AMU in the Princess of Wales Hospital. She has since gained permanent employment with us in a dual role as cardiology heart failure nurse admin support and gastroenterology clerk typist.

Adrienne said: “I am very grateful to still be working within the Health Board - I have been lucky enough to gain a lot of experience and a permanent position here at the Princess of Wales Hospital.  I am still learning and developing every day in my new role and I am grateful to be surrounded by individuals who are always willing to help me with my learning and growth within the department.

Tilly Marshall-Elson started on the Kick-start scheme as an administrative assistant in ‘The Change Hub’. She has since gained employment as an administrative support officer in values-based healthcare.

Tilly said: “I’m so happy that I get to keep working in the NHS and progress with my career within the Health Board.  I am working on improving my skills to be able to reach my full career potential.”

The Health Board wish all the kick-starters the very best of luck in their future endeavours.
