Health Board offer to end strike rejected by Unite

We are disappointed that Unite has rejected an offer made by the health board which would have brought to an end the prolonged strike by some of our health visitors.

The offer of a one-off payment of more than £5,000 for every CTMUHB health visitor, was rejected by Unite and striking health visitors today. This payment would have been in addition to the current Band 6 annual salary that health visitors receive, of up to £48,117.

We do not believe that Unite acted in the best interests of our health visitors nor in the best interests of mothers, fathers and young children who rely upon the health visiting service.

Whilst we consider the next steps, our working colleagues in health visiting, nursing, and midwifery will continue to work hard and flexibly to maintain essential services. We remain extremely grateful to them and to families for their ongoing understanding.

We know these colleagues will also be extremely disappointed by the rejection of this offer by Unite and striking health visitors, which represents a choice to continue putting undue pressure on staff, services and some of the most vulnerable families in CTM.
