Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB nursing team named Student Nursing Times Awards Finalist

District Nursing Team

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board’s North District Nursing Team has been named as a finalist in the Student Nursing Times Awards 2024.

The Student Nursing Times Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of student nurses and nurse educators.

The team reached the finals of the Student Placement of The Year: Community Award at the ceremony which took place in London on Friday 26 April 2024.

Victoria Thornton, Team Leader, nominated the team for their dedication to supporting students and ensuring they have the best quality learning environment. Students are given tailored support throughout their placement depending on their individual learning needs. Before starting with the team, students are provided with key information about their mentor and what to expect during their first weeks which helps them to feel more at ease. In addition, they are offered flexible working.

Community placements are unique and challenging and the Cwm Taf Morgannwg placement offers students integrated working – a unique element of this team – during which they meet and work with a range of connected professionals. The team values the students’ contribution, encouraging their involvement in all aspects of the role as well as participation in weekly multi-disciplinary meetings and sharing their learning with existing staff. Students often request to return to the team for their third placement and recently the team has appointed two students as registered nurses straight from their final year placement.

Kelly Davies, Interim Senior Nurse for the team said: “The Bridgend District Nursing Service are really proud to announce that the North Network District Nursing Team were nominated and shortlisted as finalists for the Student Nursing Times Award for the category of Student Placement of the Year. We are exceptionally proud of all opportunities provided to our nursing students within all our of District Nursing teams but a huge well done to the North Network for their nomination and reaching the finalist categories. The judges were really impressed with the team’s application and presentation. The feedback received was that the team were enthusiastic, committed and demonstrated that the support they provide to a wide spectrum of students was exceptional – a huge well done to the team. An absolute credit to our service and profession.”
