Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB commits to becoming an accredited living wage employer

As part of Living Wage week 2021, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is delighted to announce it is working towards being accredited as a living wage employer.

The Health Board already pays its entire staff the living wage.

However, gaining accreditation takes that a step further.  It would mean workers, who provide services to Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, via third party contractors, would also be paid the living wage.

The process started earlier this year, when Cwm Taf Morgannwg got in touch with the Living Wage Foundation to enquire about accreditation.  Following those initial discussions, the Health Board is now working alongside the charity, Cynnal Cymru, who will assist it with its application.

If all goes to plan, Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB is hopeful it can achieve accreditation by early next year, and by doing so would become only the second NHS organisation in the whole of Wales.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB’s Executive Director for People, Hywel Daniel said:  “This is something that is really important to us and something that we feel strongly about as an organisation.  It’s important to stress, we do already pay the living wage to our staff.  It is the right thing to do.

“But being accredited means we can work towards pay equity, by bringing on board our contractors to pay the living wage.

“We also understand, appreciate, and see for ourselves, how important positive socio-economics is to the health of our communities that we serve.”
