CTM Nurse wins Simply Marvellous award

Princess of Wales heart failure specialist nurse, Moira Ashton, has been nominated by the patient community and won a ‘You’re Simply Marvellous’award.

The awards recognise health care professionals throughout the UK who have been honoured by patients for their exceptional quality of care and treatment. Sponsored by The Pumping Marvellous Foundation, this award acknowledges the value that these Health Care Professionals bring to the treatment of Heart Failure, improving patient outcomes throughout the UK.

Measured by the individual patients’ experience, this award reflects the direct impact that outstanding Health Care Professionals have in the local community, producing the highest standards of care for their patients.

Heart failure patient, Teresa Rogers who commended Moira Ashton said, “Before she was my nurse I had met her in January, in the waiting area of the pharmacist-led clinic when I was there for a medication increase. She took the time to speak to me and my partner and to help educate us about heart failure and self management (no one had actually done this in the 4 months I had been diagnosed). She provided resources to help me explain heart failure to my son and gave me the details of this wonderful community here. She became my Heart Failure Nurse in February after a worsening of my symptoms and remembered speaking to me in clinic. She has been calm and reassuring every time I have spoken to her. During lockdown when hospital services were reduced, she arranged changes in medication, blood tests and even arranged an echo and Consultant review in another hospital nearby which had no Covid cases. She always has time to discuss any worries or concerns I might have, no matter how trivial they may be; I never feel rushed talking to her, despite the fact she must be rushed off her feet! I really dont know where I would be without her.”

As the representative of the UK Heart Failure patients’ voice, The Pumping Marvellous Foundation emphasises the importance of the patient perspective in recognising and rewarding Health Care Professionals.  These awards are particularly pertinent in 2020, when many heart failure patients have found themselves in the most challenging of circumstances.

“We are delighted that our patient community, has chosen Moira Ashton to receive this yearly award from the charity. It’s so important that patients and their families can operate as a team with their Health Care Professional and Moira Ashton was one of only five chosen Health Care Professionals across the United Kingdom from those nominated by the charity’s patients. A superb achievement and all five of the Health Care Professionals should be proud of themselves”, explains Nick Hartshorne Evans, Founder and CEO of The Pumping Marvellous Foundation.

Awards are currently being received by Health Care Professionals alongside a personalised commendation letter explaining the reasons behind their selection.

“Congratulations to all our award winners.  The Pumping Marvellous annual awards showcase once again the outstanding individuals and teams who provide passion, commitment, and excellence of care to patients and their care givers. In what has been such a difficult year so many professionals have, day in and day out, driven to provide care that has gone above and beyond what could be expected. Our gratitude goes out to you all,” Angela Graves, Chair of Trustees Board, the Pumping Marvellous Foundation.
