CTM first in Wales to sign RCM Charter

This week, Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB became the first Health Board in Wales to sign the Royal College of Midwives’ (RCM) Caring for You Charter, in the presence of the UK President of the RCM, Rebeccah Davies.

Signing the Charter demonstrates a commitment to improving midwives’, maternity support workers’ and student midwives’ health, safety and wellbeing at work so that they are able to provide high quality care for women and their families.

Speaking at the signing at Prince Charles Hospital, Rebeccah Davies said: “I am very proud to be here in Merthyr and to be witnessing the signing of our Charter. I have met staff members and looked around the maternity unit, and I am impressed with the incredible hard work that the teams have put into improving your service and to the commitment that all of the staff have to continually improve. I can really feel the passion here today, staff so proud of what they have achieved and what they can achieve in the future. Never lose that – you are doing an amazing job.”

Director of Midwifery at CTM Suzanne Hardacre said: “It is a huge privilege to be the first Health Board in Wales to sign the Charter and to host the RCM President on her first visit to Wales. We have taken the opportunity to introduce Rebeccah to our teams and to demonstrate the results of our improvement journey.

“We take seriously the challenges set out in the Charter and remain committed to ensuring the wellbeing of all of our staff in Maternity Services. We know that healthy and happy staff are able to provide the very best service that our women, families and communities deserve.”
