Armed Forces Week: Supporting the health and wellbeing of our Armed Forces community

Three veterans smiling

As we mark Armed Forces Week and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who serve and have served, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board honours and celebrates the service and contribution of our Armed Forces community, including serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families.

As a Veteran friendly organisation, and through our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and achievement of the Silver Award in the Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), we are dedicated to ensuring that those who serve, or have served, are treated with fairness, respect and understanding, and can access the care and support they need.

This week, we are proudly partnering with local veteran hubs across our region, alongside our three Community Voluntary Councils - BAVO, VAMT and Interlink RCT, to bring armed forces support closer to our communities.

Talking about health matters

A key focus of this week is encouraging open conversations about health and wellbeing within our Armed Forces community.

We want every veteran to feel confident in saying: “I have served”

Letting your GP know that you are a veteran could make a real difference to your healthcare. It could help ensure that you can access including services and support tailored specifically for veterans.

Hospital information stalls

If you are patient visiting our three main hospital sites on Thursday 25 June - Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital, Princess of Wales Hospital, or Ysbyty Cwm Cynon Community Hospital, look out for information stands in the main entrances between the hours of 10:00am - 3:00pm.

Our teams, alongside partner organisations, will be there to:

  • Talk about why identifying as a veteran in healthcare matters
  • Signpost to a wide range of local and national services, including:
    • Veteran support groups in your local area
    • Community organisations
    • Services for families and carers

Whether you are a veteran, family member, carer or simply want to learn more, we encourage you to have a conversation with our teams.

The CTM Armed Forces Partnership is being supported by CTM NHS Charity, as part of its commitment to helping make a real difference for patients, families, NHS staff and communities across Cwm Taf Morgannwg. Through local donations and community support, the Charity helps fund practical improvements that go over and above NHS funding. Learn more about the work CTM NHS Charity supports

Together, let’s make sure no one who has served feels they have to face health challenges alone.
