The Mental Health Liaison Team

What We Do

The Mental Health Liaison Team provides a service for people admitted to the district general hospital, community hospitals and the emergency departments located in Rhondda and Taff Ely. The multi-disciplinary team offer timely comprehensive assessment of mental health needs to those referred that present with unexplained medical conditions that may be a consequence of mental health illness or are presenting with incidents of self-harm.

Can anyone use this service?

The service is for individuals over the age of 18 years admitted who require a mental health assessment and support while in hospital.

What to expect

Referrals will be triaged, allocated leading to an assessment. All patients will be seen and assessed face to face. Following assessment the mental health liaison team may provide information, give advice to the patient/staff as well as signposting to other sources of support that may help support the patient’s needs and may include third sector organisations. The patient may require onward referral to secondary mental health services or admission to the mental health unit if necessary.
