Project SEARCH Intern Daniel Jenkins' Story

Project SEARCH intern Daniel Jenkins has successfully secured a permanent position as a Band 2 Patient Flow Coordinator with the community-based Radiology team.

Project SEARCH is a renowned partnership programme dedicated to empowering individuals with learning difficulties and/or autism through education and employment. Since starting his apprenticeship in 2024, Dan has become a highly valued member of the team, demonstrating strong commitment and work ethic while establishing himself as an integral part of the administrative team at Princess of Wales Hospital. As part of his apprenticeship, Dan also achieved a Level 2 qualification in Customer Service, further strengthening his skills and professional development.

In his role, Dan plays a key part in meeting and greeting patients, supporting radiographers with the smooth running of lists, and helping to maintain an efficient flow of patients through the department, ensuring a positive experience for those attending for X-Rays.

Dan's appointment also reflects the continued growth of the Patient Flow Coordinator role within Radiology, as Dan is now the second individual to secure a position in this role, following Declan Waagenes, who was first appointed through the Project SEARCH programme in 2022. The success of that initial appointment has helped demonstrate the value of the role, enabling the service to expand and recruit further.

Reflecting on his journey, Dan described the experience as overwhelmingly positive, highlighting that it shows ‘people with disabilities can get a job.’

Dan’s achievement is a powerful example of the impact of the Project SEARCH programme, showcasing the opportunities it creates and the meaningful difference it makes. His success also reflects Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board’s strong commitment to inclusion, workforce development, and supporting individuals with disabilities into sustainable employment.
