Help Me Quit in Hospital

All Hospital Sites And Grounds in Wales Are Smoke Free

We are proud that all our hospital sites are smoke-free under legislation introduced in 2021.

This means no-one, including patients, staff and visitors are allowed to smoke or vape anywhere on hospital grounds-inside or outside.

Anyone found breaking the law could face a fine of up to £100.

Smoke-free grounds are an important part of protecting our patients, staff and visitors from the harmful effects of smoking.

We are committed to helping all those affected by this change with free high quality support through our Help Me Quit stop smoking service. These services give everyone who smokes the best chance to make a change.

If you are attending as an Inpatient, help is at hand:

During your hospital stay, you are not permitted to smoke or vape at our hospital site- inside or outside.

If you smoke we can support you throughout your hospital stay, even if you are not sure about quitting.

During your admission you will be asked if you smoke or vape and will be offered Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT). This will ensure your stay is more comfortable, and help you manage your cravings and nicotine withdrawal.

You will also be referred to our Help Me Quit in Hospital Advisor who will discuss personalised support to make a quit attempt.

Admission to hospital is a good opportunity to quit smoking for good. Stopping smoking – even for a short time – will improve your general health and your body’s response to treatment.

You can continue to receive free support and nicotine replacement therapies from Help Me Quit when you are discharged.

We encourage all patients to take up this opportunity.
