"I no longer rely on my Mobility Scooter!" - Berni's Patient Story

One of our Joint Care patients, Berni, wanted to share her experience of the 12-week programme which resulted in her no longer depending on her mobility scooter.

With support from the JCP tutors Luke and Ellis, Berni has been able to

make changes to her lifestyle and feels more confident.

Berni joined the Joint Care Programme in March 2022 and wasn’t sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised.

Berni said that the tutors were supportive and that she really enjoyed the programme. Berni was using a mobility scooter to travel back and forth to sessions. Since finishing the programme Berni no longer needs her scooter daily and now uses her walking aid. Berni is also able to walk independently at home, which she was not able to do before attending the Joint Care Programme. Berni detail she found the Foodwise for Life sessions really helpful and motivating to improve her nutrition.

The Joint Care Programme has improved Bernie’s confidence, mobility, joint function, wellbeing and nutrition knowledge, which has to led Berni to improve her overall health.

After completing the programme, Berni now uses the gym weekly and attends the CTMHB WISE sessions for ongoing support and is looking forward to the drumming workshop.

JCP Tutor Luke said ‘It was a pleasure to support Berni and be able to make a difference to her mobility. No longer needing her scooter is such an achievement and it’s lovely to see Berni at the gym’.
