How do I access the Tinnitus service?

If your tinnitus is causing concern for you, please speak to your GP who, based upon your symptoms, will refer you to the relevant health professional, which may be Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) or the Audiology Tinnitus Service.

What to expect from my tinnitus appointment:

Prior to your initial appointment, a set of questionnaires will be sent out to you. Take the time to complete these questionnaires and bring them to your appointment along with any hearing aids you have been issued. Your answers will help your audiologist to tailor the appointment to your needs.

During the appointment, the audiologist will:

  • Review your questionnaires with you and expand on your answers
  • Discuss your tinnitus and any other ear or hearing issues
  • Examine your ears and assess if there is a need to retest your hearing
  • Design a management plan together with you based on your needs
  • Arrange an onward referral if required

It is important to be aware that there is no 'cure' for tinnitus, but your audiologist can help you to cope by introducing you to a more formal or structured management plan with the aim of alleviating the impact of your tinnitus on your life.
