Food and Fun is back...and this year it's bigger and better than ever!

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (Public Health Dietetics) in partnership with Merthyr, RCT and Bridgend local authorities and Welsh Local Government welcomes the return of Food and Fun this year; and it’s bigger and better than ever.

In CTMUHB, 1580 Food and Fun places will be made available to primary school children for the first 12 days of the summer holidays (July 25 – Aug 9).

34 schools have signed up to supporting local families with a range of engaging activities, focused around health, happiness and wellbeing. This will also ensure children have access to healthy meals, nutrition education and can enjoy plenty of physical activities.

Shelley Powell, Dietetic Professional Manager, CTM UHB said:

“We are excited to see food and fun return this summer!  It has such a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of children and families, not just for the time they are attending but into the new academic year.

“Our teams have been working so hard to prepare for the return of Food and Fun; working alongside our local authority partners to ensure our schools receive the necessary training, support and resources to create this great opportunity for the children and families in our local communities’”.

Day 1 has already bought so much positive feedback from children and families:

“I had so much fun last year that I am back this year. I can’t wait to do the fruit tasting’ – ‘I learned that you can’t say you don’t like something if you didn’t try it” Age 8, St Aloysius, Merthyr Tydfil.

“My son has learned so much from Food and Fun. He comes home every day and tells me the healthy eating message from the sessions and he has asked us to start taking part in more physical activity as a family.” Parent of child from Blessed Carlo Acutis: St Aloysius after last year’s programme.

A big thank you to all the partners engaged in making food and fun run again this year.
