Healthy relationships and better social connection is key to good physical and mental health. In order to feel well our lives need purpose and meaning and benefit from the company of others. This is why social connection is one of the foundations of WISE.
Evidence shows that there is a link between the quality of our social connection and the associated risk of conditions such as obesity, heart disease and mental health problems. Loneliness, for example, can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. It is an important factor to address and can affect anyone of any age.
WISE supports you as a whole person and will help you develop better relationships and social connection to improve your sense of vitality. Better social connection can lead to better mental wellbeing, healthier eating, good quality sleep and regular physical movement.
Wellness coaches have a wide range of platforms and community connections to support people to connect with their community and improve their health and wellbeing. These opportunities can include; art activities, group learning, volunteering, gardening, befriending, cookery, advice and assistance and a range of sports. To support you in your wellness journey with us and we can offer support and guidance on how to fit these in with your daily life.
As humans we are incredibly social, so being surrounded by others is part of our nature. Social Connection refers to a feeling of belonging or feeling close to someone. Evidence suggests that connecting with others can have a positive impact on our health and well-being and by creating a supportive social network you are more likely to make healthy lifestyle changes.
This helps to improve your overall health, including reduction in symptoms, as well as supporting a healthy immune system and prevent further illness.
Here at WISE we understand the importance of social connection as well as recognising some of the barriers that can restrict social contact with others. Understanding how your relationships are formed and maintained helps you know what is important to you and how you can support and strengthen these bonds further.
As part of our service, you will explore your relationships with others and identify what you value as an individual from these relationships and how they can support you with healthy lifestyle choices.
Our coaches have the tools to help you to improve, strengthen and maintain connections. We also offer support to engage in meaningful activities through social prescribing that offer the chance to make new connections with others that further support your wellbeing.
