My career in IT

I provide second line digital and IT support to our end users within the organisation.

 

What does your role involve and what does a typical day/week look like?

Resolving a variety of IT issues including, but not exclusive to; printer repairs, office 365, software support and hardware support. There is no such thing as a typical day as they are always different depending on what issues arise!

 

Why did you choose a career in IT?

My father has worked in IT for over 30 years so I naturally had a keen interest in an IT career from hearing him discuss his work and how rewarding it can be to help others.

 

What is your educational and career background that led you to your current position?

I was lucky enough to secure an IT apprenticeship with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council at 17 which meant I could gain a variety of experience and a qualification at the same time.

 

What advice would they give to someone looking for a job in IT?

Ensure your digital literacy is competent, look for relevant IT roles/apprenticeships and show enthusiasm towards the field.

 

What are your next steps or future career aspirations?

I’d love to progress within IT in the NHS, ideally securing a managerial position.
