New 'cuddle cot' supports bereaved families

As part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, the Driscoll/Power family have donated a ‘cuddle cot’ to our Maternity Services team at Prince Charles Hospital. The cot is dedicated to the memory of their little girl, Indi Megan Grace Power, who was born prematurely at the hospital in May this year.

The family started a go fund me page to fundraise for the additional cuddle cot via the 4louis charity, and said that when they lost Indi they were so grateful to be able to use the unit’s cuddle cot, which supported them in spending time with Indi at home. During this time the cuddle cot developed some technical issues, and a second replacement was sent out to the family home. The family were very grateful for this but acknowledged the importance of having additional cuddle cots to support families during such difficult times.

Adele, Indi’s mother said: ‘’I felt we needed something to focus on after losing Indi, so when we went home we decided to do this, knowing how important that piece of equipment was for us, and how important it may be for someone else in future. We were able to spend time with Indi at home with our family.” Adele and her family had the opportunity to spend time with baby Indi within their own environment, something that is offered to all families as standard now.

The use of cuddle cots has enabled our Maternity Services teams to support bereaved families outside of four walls of a hospital room; creating memories that are just so important to families.

The family also gifted the team, which they have praised to highly, a beautiful hamper as a token of thanks for the care they received when losing baby Indi. #BLAW2022
