Graffiti Mural Brings Colour and Comfort to Butterfly Memorial Garden

A vibrant new mural has been unveiled in the Butterfly Memorial Garden at Prince Charles Hospital, adding a powerful splash of colour and emotion to a space dedicated to remembrance and healing.

Tee2Sugars Logo The artwork, created by local graffiti artist Tee 2 Sugars, was painted voluntarily in his
own time after the charity William’s Embrace helped raise funds for the materials and reached out to him with the idea. Driven by her own loss, the charity’s founder wanted to make the garden a more welcoming environment and her passion and dedication has led to this lovely new addition. The mural features a striking butterfly design, symbolising transformation, hope, and remembrance. See more of Tee 2 Sugar's work here.

The unveiling took place on Friday 8 August, with families invited to attend a special gathering in the garden. The event included refreshments and a heartfelt service and blessing led by Lead Chaplain Carolyn Castle, offering a moment of reflection and connection for those in attendance.

Garden Mural Children at Garden Mural Donna Morgan, Bereavement Lead at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, said:

This mural is a beautiful and meaningful addition to the Butterfly Garden. It reflects the love and strength of the families who come here and honours the memory of the babies they’ve lost."

We’re incredibly grateful to Tee 2 Sugars for his generosity and to the families who made this possible.

During the mural’s creation, families were asked to temporarily move personal memorial items to allow space for painting. We extend our sincere thanks for their understanding and hope the mural will enhance the garden’s atmosphere as a peaceful and meaningful place for remembrance.

Tee 2 Sugars shared:

William It was an honour to be asked to contribute to such a special space. I wanted the mural to feel uplifting and respectful, something that families could connect with. Seeing the reactions from families made it all worthwhile.

The Butterfly Memorial Garden, which opened in August 2023, was designed as a tranquil space for families who have experienced the loss of a baby. It features butterfly sculptures, seating areas, and now, a powerful piece of art that symbolises healing and remembrance.

It’s hoped that this project will inspire similar initiatives across other acute hospital sites within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, continuing the mission to create supportive and healing environments for all.

William’s Embrace
The charity was set up by a family whose son William died at Prince Charles Hospital. The charity provides free hand and foot casting for families who have lost a child. Prince Charles Hospital was the first hospital to use this service and we are very proud to partner with them on this special project.
