Fiona Jenkins Awarded MBE
Dr Fiona Jenkins, Director of Therapies and Health Sciences at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) was officially awarded an MBE at Windsor Castle on the 9th of February 2022 by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.
Fiona, was recognised in Her Majesty’s New Year’s Honours in 2021 for her ‘outstanding work and services to healthcare’ having worked for the NHS since 1980
Fiona has been Director of Therapies and Health Sciences at CTMUHB on a part-time interim basis from her substantive post as Executive Director at Cardiff and Vale UHB (CAVUHB) since November 2020.
A physiotherapist by profession and a fellow of her professional body the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Fiona has worked in clinical and managerial roles and developed clinical strategies throughout her 42 years career.
Fiona’s specific focus during the last two years has included the development rehabilitation strategies, and the COVID rehabilitation framework with the development of a rehabilitation website to enable self-management and therapist guided care.
As well as Chair of several national groups - namely Respiratory Health, Stroke, Eye Care, Musculoskeletal review and Directors of Therapies and Health Science peer group - Fiona is also a Member of Senedd Cross Party groups for stroke and eye care.
Fiona has expertise as a clinician, manager, researcher and editor/author in service reviewing, lecturing, coaching and mentoring at national and international levels and has delivered more than 50 masterclasses across the UK and New Zealand in management and leadership topics for AHPs.
Fiona has also held the role of Vice-President and Council member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy as well as national CSP steward for Wales and has been awarded a Companion of the Institute of Healthcare Management.
CTMUHB Chief Executive Paul Mears said: “Fiona has been a valued member of the Executive Team during a period of transition for our organisation and has ensured that the Therapies and Health Science services have a much better level of structure and stability than when she first arrived.
“This award recognises the scale and breadth of Fiona’s work throughout her career which has been dedicated to serving patients, communities, and developing the AHP profession itself.
“On behalf of all her friends and colleagues at CTM, I would like to congratulate Fiona on this very special and prestigious recognition.”
On receiving her award this week Fiona said:
“I was delighted to receive my MBE at Windsor Castle from Prince Charles and have one of my daughters with me for this memorable day.
“’Services to healthcare’ is an award for all who I work with. It was a humbling and very special day.”
