Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) celebrated Welsh Language Rights Day on Tuesday December 7, 2021 by further promoting the Welsh language courses across its workforce.
Everyone in Wales has a right to receive Welsh Language services from Welsh public organisations and as a Health Board it is essential that equality and opportunity to staff and patients is provided as detailed in the Welsh Language Standards.
Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB is subject to the Welsh Language Standards, which means as well as providing vital information in Welsh from printed letters to websites, all staff have a responsibility to facilitate patients and service users’ ability to use the Welsh language when they wish to do so.
Eleri Jenkins, Welsh Language Manager at CTMUHB said: “Non-Welsh speaking colleagues at Cwm Taf Morgannwg have very much taken this all on board and many have joined beginners Welsh Language courses that our Welsh Language team run.
“We offer lots of support to staff to enable them to learn and communicate with patients in Welsh and strive to deliver the ‘active’ offer outlined in the Welsh Government’s More Than Just Words Strategy.
“We encourage the use of the Welsh language throughout our Health Board and offer colleagues the opportunity to learn Welsh through the provision of a wide range of courses.
“We’ve had a great response from staff so far and is something we are very proud of but we’re always looking to have as many colleagues being able to communicate in Welsh as possible. To this end we will continue to encourage and support our colleagues to learn Welsh for the benefit of the communities we serve here in Cwm Taf Morgannwg.”
