Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB retains Platinum Award for its services to health care promotion within the workplace

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) is proud to announce it has achieved the Platinum Corporate Health Standard.  The Corporate Health Standard (CHS), run by the Welsh Government, is the national quality mark for workplace health promotion across Wales.

An organisation can only seek to retain the Platinum Award, where it has successfully retained the Gold Award.

The Platinum Award is awarded to exemplar employers who demonstrate sustainable development as an integral part of their business practice and culture and take full account of their corporate social responsibilities.

The Platinum Award also recognises responsible employers who demonstrate an organisational commitment to support, not only their employees, but also other employers and the local community.

In addition to demonstrating how improvement has been made in the six Platinum areas, which are transport, procurement, capital build, facilities management, employment and skills and community engagement, the Health Board presented a case study showing its commitment to run apprenticeships. They also work with other sectors including the community to attract and facilitate a range of pathways to employment to engage people in a career within the NHS.

Emma George, CHS Assessor said:  “I was extremely impressed by the more strategic approach to health and wellbeing than has been noticeable in the past, and how in particular there seems to be a far greater focus on prevention, particularly with regard to mental health and wellbeing.   As an outsider who continually preaches how much health and wellbeing should be more proactive and integrated into the very culture of the organisation, this is so refreshing to see. Health and wellbeing is definitely in good hands moving forward.

“Whilst it has been a number of years since the last Platinum assessment, the agenda has grown in momentum and importance and is now very much a part of 'the way we do things', from the Chief Executive and Board through to all bands of staff. There is a sharp recognition that being sustainable and carbon neutral is a key driver of both population health and the health of the local community that CTMUHB serves.

“It was a privilege to hear the vision for the future, a vision which will undoubtedly contribute to the wellbeing of the future generations of Wales."

Claire Nicholas, Head of Policy, Compliance and Agenda for Change for the Health Board said: “Being part of the team responsible for co-ordinating our revalidation portfolio of evidence for our Platinum award was an honour and very rewarding. Seeing the quality and breadth of our sustainability submission, which drew together and evidenced the Health Board’s diverse and wide ranging activities and priorities in this area was truly inspiring.

“Retaining our platinum award is a testament to the hard work of many individuals and teams across the Health Board as well as our partners.  Their commitment and dedication to the sustainability agenda supports not only our employees, but also other employers and the local Community we serve within Cwm Taf Morgannwg.”
