CTM UHB's Seren Ward receives donations of equipment and furniture
The Seren Ward at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital has received donations of equipment and furniture from a number of local companies and organisations, organised in partnership with CTM’s Environment Waste and Fleet Team.
The donations for the ward, which cares for people with dementia, include a 65-inch Smart TV which was donated by Currys, and a sofa set and footstool donated by Collecteco. Both have now been fitted in a newly refurbished patient’s day, where patients can relax and feel comfortable.
The donation of the sofa is part of a seven year partnership between the CTM and Collecteco, who have donated several thousands of pounds worth of office equipment, and furniture to the health board.
In addition, teams from Signs Express and British Rototherm donated time and resources to help create a bus stop wall mountable infographic, which the Environment Waste and Fleet Team was able to combine with some repurposed unused seating, to create a bus stop area in the ward.

Sharon Perkins, Sales Director from Signs Express said: “It was lovely to be part of the design and manufacture process of a sign to replicate a local bus stop for the dementia ward at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. I know how important it is to make their surroundings to be as familiar as possible for people living with dementia and signs like this create a familiar environment that can help them feel safe and calm”.
Marc Penny, CTMUHB’s Director of Improvement & Innovation said: “The patients that Seren Ward serves often want to go home and are looking for a familiar way out of the ward. The bus stop acts as familiar distraction for the patients, and creates a calm area for them to sit.”
Calum Shaw, CTMUHB’s Sustainability Manager said: “It’s amazing that,through this collaboration, the team has been able to generate significant value to the organisation from items which could have otherwise gone to landfill. This project is a great example of sustainable practice, supporting the circular economy and avoiding unnecessary carbon emissions.”
Craig Edwards, CTMUHB’s Environment Waste and Fleet manager said: “These donations, which came from a Simply Do idea, and they have not only helped us to repurpose equipment and furniture which might have been wasted, but they have helped CTMUHB to make significant improvements to the Seren Ward.
“I’d like to give a big thank you to the teams at Rototherm, Signs Express. Currys, Collecteco for the kind donations, support and goodwill. I’d also like to thank our Waste Management team, the Seren Ward team, Estates and everyone at CTM who worked so hard to ensure that this Simply Do idea became a reality.”
