Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB – one of 19 organisations from across Wales – was presented with the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award for 2024 in an awards ceremony at Cardiff Bay.
Under the Defence ERS, the Silver award recognises employers who have actively demonstrated their support for the armed forces community through implementing practical policies in the workplace.
Earlier this year, CTM re-signed the Armed Forces Covenant which reaffirmed our commitment to supporting our Armed Forces families within our communities. The covenant asks us to consider the referral to treatment waiting time for those who have a medical condition as a result of time in service and their families, to ensure they are treated fairly and not disadvantaged due to this. CTM has also pledged our commitment to supporting veterans and service family members to obtain employment within our health board.
In addition, there is a CTM Staff Armed Forces network. The network aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences and providing mutual support in a relaxed setting, promoting understanding and raising awareness of challenges, transferable skills and awareness of constraints experienced by veterans and armed forces families.
Staff are also encouraged to record their Armed Forces Family status on their Electronic Staff Record to enable the health board to identify Armed Forces staff members and provide relevant information or support.
Karen Wright, Assistant Director of Policy and Compliance, said: “We’re so pleased to have been awarded the Silver recognition. We know that the transition to civilian life can at times be difficult for some Armed Forces veterans and their family members.
As with all our staff members, we are committed to working together as one team to ensure everyone is included and represented - one of CTM’s core values. This means ensuring those who serve, or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated with fairness and respect and are offered a supportive and welcoming environment, should they need to access our services or seek employment opportunities with the health board.”
