The Cwm Taf Morgannwg NHS Charity has funded and supported the creation of a brand-new dedicated staff break room and a wellbeing space for Emergency Department Staff based at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil.
The break room is a new space created as part of the ongoing refurbishment at Prince Charles Hospital, and includes kitchen facilities, tables and chairs and comfy seating.
The project was led by ECC Procurement Coordinators, Jacqueline Coles and Lynne Jennings and supported by other local staff members, who wanted to boost staff wellbeing, and create a place where staff could relax, de-stress, and recharge during their shifts.
The charity also funded the creation of a multi-functional wellbeing space, which will be used for mentoring, team debriefs, and fostering connections within the department. The wellbeing area, which was coordinated by Dr Nathan Ivey,, features comfortable sofa seating, coffee-making facilities, plants, and natural light. Essential toiletries, such as toothpaste, deodorants, and sanitary products are also provided to support staff during long shifts.
The new wellbeing area received generous support from local businesses including: Too Good to Waste, Aberdare; Paul Parker; B&Q Aberdare (Rob Nicholas); Asda Aberdare (Julie Cook, Community Champion); and Trago Mills.
Rob Foley, Hospital Manager for Prince Charles Hospital, said: “Working in emergency care is incredibly demanding, and it’s vital that our staff have a comfortable space where they can step away, even if only for a short while. This new staff room will make a huge difference in supporting the wellbeing of the team, allowing them to recharge before returning to their duties.”
Abe Sampson, Head of Charity for CTM UHB said: “Over 140 staff in the Emergency Care Centre at Prince Charles Hospital now have access to the brand-new break room and wellbeing space. Health Board staff face extraordinary challenges every day so we were delighted that our Charity could help make a difference and bring these projects to life. Every project funded by the Cwm Taf Morgannwg NHS Charity is made possible thanks to the generosity of the community and we are very grateful for every donation we receive.”
Cwm Taf Morgannwg NHS Charity supports NHS staff and patients across Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, and Rhondda Cynon Taf by delivering support over and above what the NHS can provide.
