This summer, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTM UHB) partnered with The College Merthyr Tydfil to host a health care careers fair for pupils aged 16-18 at the Merthyr Tydfil campus during the college’s transition week.
A wide range of CTM UHB colleagues and teams came together to engage with the students, to represent their professions and share insights into current job opportunities within the Health Board. Exhibitors included CTM teams from Administrative Services, IT and Digital, Estates, Facilities, Medical Records, Nursing and Midwifery, Medical and Dental, Allied Health, and Health Science Services.
Students had the opportunity to speak directly with staff, explore various career pathways in healthcare, and learn how to apply for roles within the Health Board. Information was also provided on setting up job alerts to stay informed about future vacancies.
Emily Summerhayes, Attraction and Resourcing Lead at CTM said: “Merthyr College were fantastic hosts. Staff had the opportunity to demonstrate equipment and engage with students, discussing the different careers options available with. As one of the largest employers in the region, we’re committed to creating opportunities for our future workforce. Events like this are a great way to showcase the diverse range of careers available in the NHS. We’d like to thank all the staff at the college for all of their help and support on the day.
Liana James, Employability Partner at Merthyr College, added: “We’re incredibly grateful for the time and effort the CTM staff dedicated to engaging with our learners. Events like this are vital in helping students gain a deeper understanding of local career pathways and the wide range of opportunities available within the region. By connecting students directly with employers, we’re not only raising awareness of industries they may not have previously considered, but also helping them to better understand the key skills currently in demand - such as communication, adaptability, and problem-solving. These experiences are instrumental in inspiring ambition and guiding future career choices.”
