CTM Children's Charter – 'my rights give me a voice'

We are extremely passionate about keeping our children and young people of Cwm Taf Morgannwg healthy and happy.

Today (20 November), on World Children’s Day, we are excited to launch 10 promises to children and young people, to let them know how they can expect to be treated and cared by us.

The rights, known as our Children’s Charter, are based on the principles of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the Welsh Government’s Children and Young People’s Participation Standards and the views of our children and young people of CTM.

Our Charter is for all children (aged 0-18 years) living within Cwm Taf Morgannwg, regardless if they are living with their birth parents, in foster care, living independently or any other situation.

Dr Emily Payne, Consultant Paediatrician, CTM Charter lead said:

“We are thrilled to launch our CTM Charter today! We (CTM UHB) hugely value the rights our children and young people and are committed to doing everything possible to improve the health and wellbeing outcomes for our younger generations and support them into adulthood in the ways they deserve.

“Our Charter has been designed for and with the children and young people of CTM. We have heard from hundreds of young people; from meeting with pupils in school councils and health and wellbeing committees across the region, to joining youth forums and community youth groups.

“We’d like to thank our community nursing and health visitor teams, our paediatric and nursing teams and the ‘stars’ of our public campaign - our schools, for their outstanding support and involvement.”

Through our Charter, we will:

  • Continuously build our understanding of how children and young people would like to be cared for and treated;
  • Improve our services for them through a better approach to listening and learning; and
  • Ensure we always actively involve them in their care.

We encourage individuals, parents and families to share their feedback of their care and experiences.  This can be done by writing to us at: CTM.OurHealth.OurFuture@wales.nhs.uk or sharing you experience via CIVIA, our patient feedback system.
