CTM appoints new Head of Midwifery

Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB has appointed a new Head of Midwifery, Angharad Oyler, who will be based at the Prince Charles Hospital site.

Angharad started her career in nursing and midwifery over 25 years ago, and has been employed by Cardiff and Vale UHB since 2005. There, she has worked in a variety of midwifery related roles, including governance and risk management, operational lead midwife duties, and clinical supervision for midwives. Angharad chaired the Wales Clinical Supervisors for Midwives forum during the introduction of the Employer Led Model.

Angharad's commitment to patient safety and quality assurance led to her appointment as the Cardiff and Vale UHB Head of Patient Safety and Quality Assurance in the corporate nursing team in 2020, serving as the organisation's professional lead for Quality Governance. Angharad has experience of creating and implementing policies, strategies, committees, and governance groups. She has also played a key role in implementing organisation-wide change to support the Quality Assurance and the Clinical Effectiveness agenda, including the Quality Safety and Experience framework.

As part of her ethos, which is evident in her management and leadership style, Angharad places a major emphasis on encouraging employee wellbeing and development which she feels is inextricably linked with patient safety and high-quality care. She is a supporter of promoting awareness of UHB values and principles as she feels they are the foundations upon which a healthy patient safety and learning culture can flourish

As a supporter of empowering parents to make informed decisions about their care, ensuring their voices are heard, and optimising outcomes. Angharad believes that working collaboratively with parents and families results in meaningful service development and reform

Currently a Board Member for the Royal College of Midwives, Angharad influences the governance arrangements for the Royal College of Midwives to ensure that the best interest of its members and the midwifery profession are prioritised.

Angharad is delighted to begin her new position as Head of Midwifery in CTM UHB, and to join the team within the Children's and Families Care Group.
