A community partnership led by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) has been recognised nationally for its work to improve vaccination uptake and protect local communities.

The CTMUHB Community Working Group for Vaccination and Health Protection has won the Vaccination Saves Lives Team Award, recognising its collaborative approach to supporting people across Cwm Taf Morgannwg.

Formed through the CTM Community Leaders’ Network,  a partnership forum of the health board, the group brings together local organisations and health experts to co-design vaccination initiatives with communities most affected by health inequalities. By working with trusted local voices, the partnership has helped build confidence, reduce barriers to access, and support people to stay well during the winter months.

A key achievement is the bilingual  “It Takes a Village”  Winter Vaccination Toolkithttps://ctmuhb.nhs.wales/about-us/ctm2030-community-hub/ctm2030-community-leaders-network/it-takes-a-village-to-keep-us-protected-from-flu-this-winter/, developed with community input and tailored to local areas including Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf. The partnership has also trained Community Vaccination Champions - local people equipped to share trusted information, answer questions and connect others to services.

Philip Daniels, Executive Director for Public Health, CTM UHB said:

“This recognition reflects the strength of partnership working across Cwm Taf Morgannwg and the vital role our communities play in protecting one another. By working with trusted local organisations and empowering community champions, we are improving access to vaccination while tackling health inequalities. Together, we are helping to keep people safe and support healthier lives.”

The awards also recognised the Prison Health Care Team at HMP Parc, who were highly commended for their innovative approach to delivering vaccinations in a secure setting by introducing an innovative weekend, wingbased delivery model.

Both the community partnership and HMP Parc will be recognised as part of April’s Welsh Immunisation Conference organised by Public Health Wales.
