CNO Excellence Award for Mental Health Nurse

CTM Mental Health Dementia Specialist Nurse Catherine Lowery has received a Chief Nursing Officer Excellence Award for her outstanding work at HMP Parc.

Cath is the first specialist dementia nurse at the prison and over the past year has improved the quality of service provided within the prison for individuals living with dementia. She has played a key role in the implementation of a Dementia Friendly Environment/Wing - the first of its kind in Wales.

Cath has also supported prison staff with training and education around dementia care and has implemented dementia training videos looking at behaviours that challenge and approaches to caring for these individuals.

Ana Llewellyn, CTM’s Nurse Director for Primary, Community and Mental Health said: “We are exceptionally proud of Cath.  She has demonstrated leadership and partnership skills since the HMP Parc healthcare provision transitioned to the health board last year. She is highly committed to providing excellent care for this vulnerable population.”

Cath is a shining example of a compassionate, kind and courageous nurse as well as being extremely resilient, hardworking and committed to improving the outcomes for our population and treating every individual the same.
