Clinical Scientist achieves national recognition by the Academy of Healthcare Science
Dr Jonathan Arthur (Jon) has been awarded entry to the Higher Specialist Scientist Register at the Academy of Healthcare Science. This relates to his work at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board concerning professional practice, scientific practice, clinical practice, research, development & innovation and clinical leadership. Once on the register, he becomes a Fellow of the Academy of Healthcare Science concerning this achievement.
Jon is Head of Audiology and holds an honorary senior lectureship with Swansea University. Over the past few years, he has demonstrated “equivalency” in two National schemes available through the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS).
Jon Arthur said, “I went through the Scientist Training programme (STP) equivalence programme in 2019 and became a registered clinical scientist. I am now registered with the health and care professions council (HCPC). My initial equivalence programme acknowledges advanced practice skills and knowledge at M.Sc. level. Afterwards, I followed a similar programme of work where my skills, knowledge and experience at doctoral level were assessed. I thought that as I already had a Ph.D. there wouldn’t be any harm in applying for equivalence at the HSSR level”
“In Wales Healthcare Scientists can apply for funding for equivalence provided through Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW). I managed to secure funding for both equivalence programmes through HEIW. The higher specialist scientific training (HSST) programme equivalence scheme involved submitting an initial application and thereafter submitting a portfolio of evidence that demonstrated that I was working at that level. This was assessed by a Consultant Clinical Scientist and followed a robust review process. I am absolutely thrilled to receive the recognition of my work within CTM UHB”
