Celebrating Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant at CTMUHB

Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus i bawb!

This St. David’s Day, we’re taking a look back on our achievements over the last 12 months to increase the use of Welsh in CTM and the experiences and care we provide for our patients. Here are a few highlights:

  • We published our short leaflet on what your rights as patients are to use Welsh with us at CTM UHB

  • Over 200 members of staff have been supported by our health board to learn Welsh or improve their confidence in using Welsh for free

  • We introduced new recruitment guidance, meaning that more of our Welsh-speaking patients are receiving care in their language choice

  • Our teams enjoyed a fantastic week on the Eisteddfod Maes, engaging with people from our local patch and beyond on their health and wellbeing.

  • Our staff have continued to make countless contributions to embed Cymraeg throughout our organisation to improve patient care and experience

Staff celebrating St David Recently, CTM Project SEARCH interns were invited to Merthyr College to learn more about Welsh culture and inclusivity, including the symbolic figure Mari Lwyd.

Owen, a Project SEARCH supported intern, shared: "I learned about Mari Lwyd, an old Welsh tradition still practised in rural Wales. I liked that Phyl actually brought the Mari Lwyd into class and I got to see what it is like to use it."

Learning and Development Lead Rhian Lewis added, "We are incredibly proud of our partnership with Project SEARCH and the impactful cultural experiences it brings to our interns. This initiative highlights our commitment to celebrating Welsh heritage and promoting inclusivity within our healthcare community."

We are making great progress towards becoming a bilingual health board, by supporting our staff to develop their skills, and by encouraging our patients to use Welsh when they receive treatment or care with us.

Watch this video to see what Cymraeg means to our staff and patients.

Have you or someone you care for had a positive experience of using Welsh in our health board?

We’d love to hear your feedback – it will make such a difference to our staff and will help us continue to improve. Please email us at CTT_WelshLanguage@wales.nhs.uk.
