Today is Allied Health Professionals Day and we’re proud to celebrate the dedication, compassion, and expertise of our Allied Health Professionals (AHPs). These individuals make a difference every day in our communities and play a vital role in patient care.
Did you know AHPs are the third-largest clinical workforce in the NHS?
They are a diverse group of experts who help people live well, recover, and stay independent. From physiotherapists to dietitians, speech and language therapists to podiatrists, our AHPs deliver care in hospitals, communities, outpatient clinics, schools, and homes.
At CTMUHB, our AHPs include:
Art, Music, and Drama Therapists
Clinical Psychologists
Dietitians
Occupational Therapists
Orthoptists
Orthotists / Prosthetists
Paramedics
Physiotherapists
Podiatrists
Speech & Language Therapists
Together, they have a remarkable impact on the health and wellbeing of our patients.

AHPs in Action
Across CTM UHB, AHPs support patients in every setting – on wards, in clinics, and in the community. Whether it’s rehabilitation, prevention, or innovation, our AHPs are central to the excellent care we provide.
Rapid Access and Admission Prevention Service
This model enables quick access to AHP services to maximise independence, prevent deterioration, and avoid hospital admissions. It was recently highly commended at the national AHA awards.
Neonatal Follow-Up Service
Supporting babies transitioning from neonatal units to home, this innovative and co-produced service won the best oral presentation prize at the British Association of Perinatal Medicine.
The Inspire Games
Hosted by our paediatric physiotherapy service, this inclusive event brought together 150 young people from five special schools across the region. Activities included Running, Boccia, Trampolining, Wheelchair Sports, Benchball, Soft Archery, Hockey, Tug of War, and Basketball Shootout, celebrating participation and ability at all levels.

Celebrating 80 Years of Speech and Language Therapy
Earlier this month, CTM’s Speech and Language Therapy team hosted a photography exhibition to mark the 80th anniversary of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). The exhibition featured powerful images capturing the daily lives of therapists across the UK.

Staff, patients, and members of the public attended the event, which highlighted the vital role Speech and Language Therapists play in supporting our communities.
Lauren Edwards, Executive Director of Allied Health Professions (AHPs) and Health Science, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported our exhibition earlier this month. This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the work of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, and to highlight the important role that Speech and Language Therapists play in supporting our local communities.”
Thank you, AHPs!
