Carers Week 2025: Caring About Equality

Carers Week 9 - 15 June 2025

Between 9 and 15 June, CTM is celebrating Carers Week 2025, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. Carers Week is led by Carers UK with the support of a number of other charities.

This year the theme is 'Caring About Equality' highlighting the inequalities faced by unpaid carers, including a greater risk of poverty, social isolation, poor mental and physical health.

Carers in the UK – The facts

  • There are 5.8 million people in the UK caring for a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, older or disabled.

  • Unpaid carers save the UK economy an estimated £184 billion each year – the equivalent of a second NHS.

  • Caring for someone can have a significant impact on your own health, finances, employment and education opportunities.

  • 70% of carers report a long term physical or mental health condition, disability or illness, compared to 50% of non-carers.

David Watkins, Corporate Carers Lead, Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB said: “Carers Week is a vital time to acknowledge the incredible commitment of unpaid carers across our communities.

This year’s theme, ‘Caring about Equality’, highlights our collective responsibility to ensure carers have fair and equal access to the support, information, and services they need. Our activities across hospital sites and community settings will focus on raising awareness, promoting equality, and helping carers feel recognised, supported, and better equipped in their caring roles.”
