This week, Bridgend’s Hospital Radio (BHR) is marking its 40th anniversary of dedicated broadcasting to the Princess of Wales Hospital.
For four decades, BHR has been a steadfast companion to patients, staff, and visitors, providing a source of entertainment, comfort, and connection within the healthcare community.
Established in 1983, BHR began as a small but passionate initiative to bring a touch of familiarity and cheer to the hospital environment. Over the years, the station has evolved, adapting to new technologies while maintaining its commitment to serving the hospital’s community.
Throughout its journey, BHR has brought together volunteers from all walks of life who share a common goal: to uplift the spirits of those within the hospital. With a diverse array of programming, including music, interviews, request shows, and health-related segments, the station has become an integral part of daily life at the Princess of Wales Hospital.
“We are incredibly proud to have reached this remarkable milestone,” said Wayne Dunkley, Station Manager. “Our volunteers have worked tirelessly to bring comfort, joy, and a sense of companionship to patients and their families during what can often be challenging times. This anniversary is a celebration of our shared dedication to the well-being of our hospital community.”
The 40th anniversary celebrations include special programming, interviews with hospital staff and long-time listeners, and a series of heartwarming stories showcasing the positive impact BHR has had on countless lives. The station also plans to engage with the local community through outreach programs and collaborative events in the coming months.
Bridgend’s Hospital Radio extends its sincere gratitude to all volunteers, past and present, whose contributions have made this journey possible. As they continue to provide their invaluable service, they look forward to many more years of brightening the lives of those they touch within the Princess of Wales Hospital and beyond.
