This year we celebrate the 39th annual Volunteers’ Week which is a wonderful opportunity to say thank you to the millions of volunteers who make a difference across the UK. Volunteers willingness to give their time freely is without saying truly inspirational and the following volunteer story certainly captures the true meaning of this:
“It has been a privilege to be able to take up the role of Organ Donation Family Support Volunteer at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, It has been a long time coming and taken a lot of hard work involving lots of people. Having the opportunity to sit and be with family’s that have made the heart wrenching decision to go ahead with their loved ones wishes can be a difficult one. Having been in that situation myself, I can both sympathise and empathise and to be able to listen, comfort, and be that someone that understands is an honour. With Wales being the first place in the UK to have the opt- out system it’s a wonderful thing that we are keeping this at the fore front by being the first Health Board in both the UK and Europe to have this type of volunteer role”.
We as a family have learnt,
“That In Giving We Receive.”
