In 2021, the General Pharmaceutical Council published new standards for the initial education and training of pharmacists, emphasisng the importance of experiential and inter-professional learning.
Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTM UHB) supports these standards by offering both observational and enhanced placements to MPharm students. Enhanced placements are provided via the Funded Pharmacy Undergraduate Placement Programme (FPUPP) offered by Health Education Improvement Wales.
Observational Placements
Students undertaking an observational placement will spend a day at an acute site within CTM UHB. During this time, they will gain insight into the workings of a hospital pharmacy and receive an introduction to hospital ward environments.
Enhanced Placements
Enhanced placements, provided through the FPUPP, offer students the opportunity to work alongside various members of the pharmacy team as well as professionals from other healthcare disciplines. Each student is assigned a dedicated inter-professional education session, ensuring meaningful engagement with other health and care professions – an experience that closely reflects real-world clinical practice.
