28 July is World Hepatitis Day. Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has a three year Hepatitis Elimination Plan for 2024 - 2027 and an Elimination Working Group. The aim of the plan and working group is to address the Welsh Government ambition for Wales to achieve the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) target to eliminate hepatitis B and C as a public health threat by 2030.
Hepatitis C (HCV) is an inflammation of the liver which is caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). HCV can cause both acute and chronic hepatitis, ranging in severity from a mild illness to a serious lifelong illness, which may include liver cirrhosis and cancer. Acute HCV infections are usually asymptomatic.
Watch a video, developed by the National Liver Disease Implementation Network, which will provide further information about Hepatitis C, what it is, how you can catch it and how it is treated.
