Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is delighted to announce the Minor Injuries Unit (known as the MIU) will reopen at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon (YCC) from next week, (Tuesday May 24).
It will be a phased reopening, for two mornings a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) between 09:00 and 11:00. This will increase to three mornings a week by the end of June and fully operational Monday to Friday by the end of July.
In announcing the reopening, Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB’s Chief Operating Officer, Gethin Hughes said: “The first thing I want to do is to thank our communities for their patience and understanding while we worked on the reopening of the MIU at YCC.
“We know how important the service is to the local population, and as a Health Board, we have been totally committed and focused on restoring the MIU for this very reason. It is the communities’ support which has given us the time we needed to get this right.
“We have been successful in recruiting Registered Emergency Practitioners, that means, once we see the MIU fully functional to five days a week, we will then look to further expand the offer of urgent care at YCC.”
The MIU department will be temporarily located in the Primary Care Centre on the ground floor along with other Primary Care clinics and operating an appointment system as we reintroduce the service. To make an appointment, or to be directed to the appropriate care, please contact 01443 444075.
Please note, the MIU can only treat people over the age of 16 years old, children under 16 years old will be guided to the correct service on triage (phone call).
