'Tee2Sugars' Graffiti Specialist brightens up the entrance to Prince Charles Hospital

In 2017, work started on the £260m(circa) refurbishment programme at Prince Charles Hospital; a major refurbishment programme to improve and update the hospital. Over several phases of works, we will be extending the existing facilities and upgrading the hospital environment for our patients, visitors and staff.

Work has progressed year on year and the programme is anticipated to be completed in 2026. The programme’s timeline reflects the huge scale of works being undertaken on our ‘live’ hospital site.  All the works are being planned in sections in order to keep services running as normal as possible, and with the least disruption to patients and staff.

We are doing all we can to make the environment as pleasant as possible whilst these works are being carried out. Recently, we have been working with ‘Tee2Sugars’ graffiti specialist, to develop the plain hoarding boards lining the hospital’s front entrance.

We wanted our entrance to look and feel brighter and have real meaning to our community, and for it to reflect the history and local environment of the Merthyr and Cynon areas. The left side of the hoarding was themed around care, health and growth with the right side focusing on sustainability, history and heritage.

Jeremy Holifield, Responsible officer for the Prince Charles Hospital construction programme said: “The feedback on the work carried out by Tee2Sugars at our main entrance has been very positive by patients and visitors who have passed by. It hasn’t simply brightened the hoarding, the vibrant statement linking our healthcare ethos with our local heritage and the environment is both thought provoking and heartening.”

Tom, Graffiti Specialist from Tee2Sugars said: “It felt like such an accomplishment for me to be part of the refurbishment project. To have my work displayed in such a public place and people admire it is always a highlight to any artists work. The reaction to the mural while I was completing it was overwhelmingly positive with people impressed with the colours and the imagery displayed.”
