Relaxation of mask wearing across Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB

Towards the end of last year, we were experiencing a more severe strain of flu within our communities and across our hospital sites and made the difficult decision to introduce compulsory mask wearing across CTM.

From today, Monday 12 January, masks are no longer required when attending hospital sites, unless an area has been identified as having an outbreak.

The commitment and support of our staff, patients and visitors has resulted in us seeing a steady decline of cases of flu and other respiratory infections across our hospital sites and we are now able to relax the requirements. This means that masks no longer need to be worn when entering our hospital sites, attending wards, clinics or appointments.

However, respiratory illnesses are still circulating in our communities and it is very important that the public, patients and those visiting loved ones in hospital support with preventing the spread of illness.

You can help us by following the steps below:

Visit responsibly

You can help us to contain the spread of the virus by avoiding visiting our hospital sites if you have any symptoms of a stomach bug or respiratory illness or have been around someone who has a virus.

Respiratory illnesses and viruses can be dangerous for vulnerable patients in hospitals.

If you are immunosuppressed, think you have a virus or have recently spent time with someone who has a virus, avoid visiting our hospitals.

Get vaccinated

If you’re eligible for vaccinations against flu or COVID don’t miss out. Getting vaccinated is the single most effective thing you can do to prevent yourself becoming ill and suffering the worst effects of these viruses.

Maintain good hand and cough hygiene

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitiser.

If you need to cough, please cover your mouth with a tissue or your elbow to minimise the spread of germs. Wash your hands after coughing and dispose of your tissue.

These may seem like small things, but it makes a big difference.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.
